Become an Independent Tenant Advisor

Help shape the future of social housing in Scotland

The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) is inviting social housing tenants to apply for the role of Independent Tenant Advisor — a voluntary opportunity to help ensure tenants’ voices are at the heart of housing regulation in Scotland.

Tenant Advisors play a key role in supporting the Regulator’s work by bringing a lived tenant perspective to how social landlords are assessed and how services are communicated.

There are 16 volunteer positions available, and tenants of housing associations and local authorities are encouraged to apply. No formal qualifications or previous experience are required, and successful applicants will receive ongoing support throughout their role.

What does a Tenant Advisor do?

Tenant Advisors are involved in a range of important activities, including:

  • Testing landlord services by reviewing information and materials produced for tenants
  • Reviewing SHR publications and digital content, helping ensure they are clear, accessible and user-friendly
  • Gathering feedback from other tenants, providing real experiences and insights to inform regulatory assessments

By taking part, Tenant Advisors help influence the future direction of social housing services across Scotland.

The recruitment process is supported by the Tenants Information Service (TIS), who will work in partnership with the Scottish Housing Regulator.

How to apply

Applications close on Friday 13 February 2026.
