Your Views on Allocating Homes
Posted on 25th Jul 2023 at 09:53 ( Last updated on 25th Jul 2023 at 09:53 )
We are currently reviewing our allocations policy and want to know your thoughts. However as we share a Common Housing Register with Midlothian Council the changes we can make to how we allocate homes are limited. In addition the Scottish Government has strict rules on the allocation of homes by social landlords. We do have flexibility in certain areas though so are keen to hear your views.
You can read the new draft allocations policy here, however the main proposed changes are:
- Hard to Let properties – we will consider under occupancy which may also include taking people with child on access as well as looking at other lettings initiatives in a bid to reduce void rent loss/relet times
- Incentives – looking at downsizing payments again for under occupied properties. Potentially a cash payment plus assistance with removal costs
- Suspension of applications – where we have made 2 suitable offers and none have been accepted, we will suspend them as it is likely unfair that they sit on the list for years to come when they are potentially in a prime position
Please take a couple of minutes to complete this short survey. You don't have to be a Melville tenant to let us know your views, as anyone can apply for a Melville property but we would especially like to hear from anyone currently waiting for one of our homes.
Deadline for responses is 5pm Thursday 10 August.
